The Magic Wand

With Guest Star Jojo Jaco

While Sitting On My Bedroom Floor

I was resting on the floor of my room and reading a book, when out of the corner of my eye I saw Jojo sneaking up on me, a huge electric grin on her face. In her hand was a golden knitting needle. She tip-toed into my room giggling as she got closer. Finally she was right in front of my face.

She cleared her throat and pointed the knitting needle right between my eyes. "You are getting veeeeeeeery sleeeeeepy," She said trying to make her high pitched voice sound suave and mysterious.

She tried to look as serious as possible, but after about five seconds she burst into rambunctious giggles and said, "THAT'S FUNNY!" then ran out of my room at top speed laughing the whole way.

The Floors Will Be Cleaned Somehow

With Guest Star Gracie Jaco

While Having Clean Up Time In The Silvey House

"Be more like a noodle!" Daniel shouted. His proclamations naturally drew me to the scene.

"I'm trying!" Gracie shouted back. Her voice was quite muddled because she was laying face down on the living room floor with Daniel standing over her.

"Ok, let's try this again." Daniel called down to her.

I watched in shock and awe as Daniel then reached down and grabbed Gracie by the ankles and began to pull her around the hardwood floors and whip her from side to side.
"It's not working." Daniel said with a down cast expression.

Gracie popped up and looked at me and said "I don't make a good mop."

"We tried," Daniel said comforting her.

"Ok. Lets mop with something else." She said as she skipped away.

Not Acceptable

I know my blog is meant to be light hearted and fun, but today I want to talk about something more serious. I'm sure if you know me in person you've heard me say at least once "Please don't use that word" in response to one person calling another person or themselves "Retarded"

Mental Retardation is a serious life debilitating illness that 3 percent of Americans are effected by. The word retard is defined as - A person that is diagnosed with a mental retardation that causes them to have slow development. The word retard DOES NOT mean foolish or stupid and it is not acceptable to use it in replacement. When you call one of your friends or yourself retarded because they are being foolish, you are saying those two definitions are the same. You're making an actual illness a derogatory term. This to me is one of the most offencive things you can say and it makes me very upset that society has made it acceptable. You would never dream about making jokes about other illnesses such as cancer or autoimmune disease. I've never once heard any one say to their friends "You are such a cancer patient!" You would never dream of making jokes about that! So why make jokes about this? Using the word retarded in a derogatory fashion is just as offencive as any other minority slur. Would you call darker skinned people the N word?

One excuse I've heard people make when I ask them why they'd say something so offencive is, "But I know someone with down syndrome and I love them so its OK." How is that better? If you know and love someone who has such a challenge in their life you should be lifting them up and supporting them, NOT associating them with foolish behavior behind their backs. Would you make that joke in front of someone with down syndrome?

The fact is that people have the nerve to say something so stereotypical and ignorant, and then they become offended when they are called out on it. Well, I don't care who this offends, if you use the word retarded in a derogatory sense you are associating a serious illness with someone else's foolishness. If you know and love someone effected by mental retardation or want to help end this name calling, please repost this to your social sites. If enough people stand up to this minority slur maybe we can help spread awareness that: It is NOT ACCEPTABLE to call your self or your friends retarded when they are acting foolish.

A Story About Art

Here's a story for you

Once upon a time, I found this envelope under my door

And inside it was a picture

And that picture made my day, so now it's on my door

A Silvey Family Tale Talks Science

Being a parent is one of the most efficient forms of time travel currently known to man. Not only does it speed time up so dramatically where an entire year can go by in a blink of an eye and suddenly your child is walking, and talking, and running, and jumping, it has this funny way of slowing time down to a stand still when ever you take your children somewhere where they have to sit down, and shut up.

Intervention

While Sarah Was Looking For A Drink To Take Her Medicine With
"Mommy can I have some of your water please? I just need a sip to take my drugs." Sarah Inquired. But before mommy had the chance to respond Emily gasped and a look of horror colored her expression.

"WHAT!? SARAH! YOU TAKE DRUGS!?" Both her tone and expression displayed that she was appalled by Sarah's potential behavior.

"Just say "No" Sarah" Daddy said between giggles.

"Why didn't you say no? Why Sarah?"

What's In Your Soul?

While Eating Dinner Together One Evening

Guest staring Hannah Campbell

"Hey Michael can you sing your song for mommy?" Daddy asked him while we were all gathered at the dinner table.

"Why?" He asked, dragging out the "Y" sound so what he really said was "Whyyyyyy?"

"Because I think Mommy will love your song." Daddy said trying to nudge him to sing by using an over dramatic tone.

"But I can't!" He said looking shy and distressed.

"Why not?" Daddy implored growing a tad impatient.

"'Cause every one will see it!" He said hiding his face in his hands.

"What if we all close our eyes?" Mommy suggested. "Then no one can see."

"Ok..." He agreed reluctantly.

Everyone proceeded to cover their eyes and turn their heads away. "What about now?" Mommy asked.

He began to hum a few bars very quietly then suddenly, "NO! I can still see Hannah and Emily!" He cried, disturbed by their lack of respect of his privacy.

"Ok, ok how about you cover your eyes like this." Mommy suggested further, showing him how to cover his eyes with both his hands. "Better?" She inquired.

"Ok. Now I can sing." He began to hum quietly and slowly the words grew more and more distinct.

"I've got Starbucks and some chocolate. I've got Starbucks and some Starbucks. I've got Starbucks and some chocolate in my soul!" He sang out the last line triumphantly to a round of applause.

"COVER YOUR EYES!"

Not Happening

While I was Walking Down the Hall I happened Across This Conversation

"Daddy, when I grow up can I change my name to Tabitha?" Lexie asked in her most convincing voice.

"No."

"Why not?" She asked in a much more whiny tone.

"Because that's just not happening."

Sweet Cheeks

While Walking To Our Campsite In Yosemite

Michael, Daddy and I were walking back to our tent after a long bus ride around the park when Michael seemed too tired to keep walking.

"Daddy," he said "Can I please hold your hand?" He asked looking rather pathetic and exhausted.

"I can't hold your hand buddy. I'm carrying all these bags. How about you hold Ashley's hand." He suggested as an alternative.

I offered him my hand which he gladly took.

"Thanks for holding my hand sweet cheeks." he said and we trudged on.

Lexie Did Something Cute Last Sunday

While We Were At Church On Sunday

On Sunday I felt like dieing instead of going to church.

I was in the back of church getting a sip of water to try and stop coughing. I was in the back for about two minutes when Lexie came back to check on me.

"Are you ok?" She asked her face colored with concern and her hands hiding something behind her back.

"Oh I'm fine, I'm just getting a sip of water." I said with a little smile on my face. I was flattered that she came to check on me.

"Well ok. But I made you this picture just in case you didn't feel good." She said handing me a picture.

And with that she skipped back into church.

Michael - 3 Years Old

While Walking To The Car After Dinner

Michael held Dad's hand and skipped to the car. As they drew closer he stopped.

"Daddy?" he said, getting his attention.

"Yes son?" Dad replied leaning down.

"Can I drive?" He inquired.

"Not this time buddy." Dad answered.

"Ok... Maybe next time." He said, still hopeful.

"Maybe." Dad assured.

And with that they continued on to the car.

Ride Em' Son!

While I was babysitting Michael

I had been in my room doing homework for a while and decided I'd better check on Michael and make sure he wasn't into anything he shouldn't be.

"Michael? Where are you buddy?" I called out.

"RIDE EM' COWBOY!" he responded.

"What? What are you doing out there?" I called getting closer to his voice.

"RIDE EM' COWBOY!" He called back.

I heard a loud thumping as I came closer to the living room.

"What's that sound bud?"

"RIDE EM' COWBOY!" He said once more.

As I rounded the corner, the living room came into sight. There was Michael in the center of it. He had a pair of toy story underwear on his head and was galloping around and around in circles.

"RIDE EM' COWBOY! RIDE EM' SON! WA-HOO!!!"

I'm about 85% sure my brother is mentally handicapped

Poetry ~ By Emily Silvey

"Too"

By Emily Silvey - 5 years old

A unicorn is colorful and pretty
Their wings are colorful too
Dinosaurs are big and scary
Their teeth are scary too
A cat is fuzzy and furry
Its tail is fuzzy too
Rainbows are colorful and shiny
Their gold is shiny too
People are weird and stupid
And you are stupid too

GUEST POST!

JACO CHEEKS - By Karly Jaco

While Fellowshipping At The Back Of The Church One Evening

Ashley Silvey, yes, THE Ashley Silvey of A Silvey Family Tale, sat talking with her mother (Stacy), her sister Sarah and I, one evening after Church.

Stacy, of course had to get her Ava loves, so she took Ava from Ashley and invited Michael over to talk to Ava, as she was doing.

Michael was overjoyed to have the chance to talk to Ava, up close no less! He was totally wrapped up in talking to her, and staring into her face, "Hiii Ava, Hiiii Ava..." he cooed with a big grin from ear to ear. We all smiled and watched as Michael's love for Ava radiated from his being.

Suddenly, he paused... an ever-so-serious look on his face, and looked up at his momma. "Mommy." he said, "Why is her face too big??"

We all immediately cracked up, and Sarah commented, "This will be a good one for the blog" We all agreed, and joked about how Sarah's line would give her a co-starring role in this blog tale. (Yay, Sarah...that's two now!)

And that is the story of how Michael discovered, that "Silvey cheeks" can also come on a Jaco.

The End

Ava Brooklyn Jaco

Hey guys! It's me again! I hope you all enjoyed the guest post! This was written by a very dear friend of mine. Well, she's more of a big sister and role model.

Back in the day, before she was a mummy and I was in high school, we both considered ourselves aspiring authors. Now that we are very immersed in life and had to step away from bigger projects like novels and children's stories, we both stumbled into blogging. What's cool is that we both got into it around the same time and with no influence from each other! Karly's Blog, The Up Look, is a truly inspiring read.

She tells her life story as wife to a preacher

 Mother of three

 And daughter of Christ

Her life is a living display of patience and faith. Please check her out and give her some love in the comments below and by following her blog! Check it out here!
